The Three Antis Campaign

"Cleanse away the filth and poison left over in our country from the old society" Mao Zedong

When?

1951-1952

Who did it target?

The three antis that it was trying to eradicate were: corruption, waste and bureaucracy

Mainly focused on members of the CCP

Methods

Cadres were encourage to criticise and name CCP officials who had been corrupted. For instance those that accepted bribes or favoured business interests or using their position for profit.

Outcomes

Some prominent victims of the campaign were Liu Qingshan and Zhang Zishan who were arrested and accused of embezzling state fund (reported amounts vary from 1.7 million to 1.5 billion yuan). They were also accused of living an extravagant Bourgeois lifestyle. Whether the accusations were true or not isn't clear but they were found guilty and executed February 1952.

  • Former nationalist employees imprisoned or executed because by late 1952 communists had trained enough people to do the job
